UniSart membranes are cellulose nitrate membranes with large pore size. They have been specifically designed for rapid LFIA test. Every step in the membrane manufacturing process, from the mixing of polymers to the final winding of master rolls, has been optimized in order to give a reproducible and clean structure. The defined pore structure of these membranes yields a controlled and fast lateral wicking of samples and reagents.
The UniSart membranes show an exceptional intra and inter lot consistency, because consistency is really what matters, especially when it comes to quantitative tests.
The UniSart family comprises 3 different standard membranes which are produced in large volume:
CN 140 unbacked
is a non supported cellulose nitrate membrane. This unbacked membrane allows the dispensing of the reagent directly on the belt side of the membrane. Due to the manufacturing process, this side of the membrane always presents a clean, smooth and defect free surface, allowing for sharp test and control lines. The relative high tensile strength of this unsupported membrane still allows working in a reel to reel process. This membrane is used in many different LFIA tests.
CN140 backed
is a supported cellulose nitrate membrane. It is produced through direct casting onto a 100µm clear polyester film, making the membranes mechanically more rigid and thus easier to handle. The sharpness and intensity of the final signal in an immunochromatographic test is closely dependent on the membrane structure and its surface quality. UniSart CN backed membranes are undergoing specific manufacturing steps, though a patented process, in order to keep a clean and defect free application side.
This membrane is already used in most of the existing types of test, from of course fertility, to drug of abuse, infectious disease (like HIV, StrepA, HbsAg,…), cardiac markers and others
CN95
is a new supported cellulose nitrate membrane. this membrane is also produced through direct casting onto a 100µm clear polyester film. The CN95 has much larger pore than the CN140 type and so a faster wicking speed
The new CN95 membrane is particularly adapted for lateral tests running on viscous or particle loaded samples with either cells or bacteria or other particles. The fast lateral speed of the UniSart CN95 allows getting a very quick clearing of conjugate particles, either gold or larger latex beads. This new membrane will so generate much less background and give a shorter time to signal on the test line. It’s the ideal membrane for blood or serum test as well as for tests, which doesn’t require the sensitivity of a slower membrane.
